Paving a Path for Patient to Staff Communication

Together, EXTENSION, INC and GetWellNetwork, Inc. have devised a communication solution that enables patients to send messages directly to an attending nurse or other staff member’s mobile device, as well as automate new patient workflows, which enables the hospital to provide better services and care.

For example, if a patient fails to interact with the GetWellNetwork Patient Pathways systems by declining a prompt to watch a video relating to his condition, EXTENSION – which aggregates data from the Patient Pathways system and other clinical systems – sends an alert to the appropriate nurse notifying her that the patient has opted not to review the material. EXTENSION adds relevant patient data from the HIS/EHR or other system to the alert. With this information, the nurse can decide on the best course of action.

Patients can also send direct messages to their nurse’s mobile phone to make specific requests such as a pain medication request.
